Boris Johnson remains in hospital with Covid-19

The UK Prime Minister went to hospital on Sunday evening and remains there on Monday morning due to a high temperature after testing positive for coronavirus 10 days ago.

Boris Johnson had been self-isolating after contracting coronavirus on 3 April.

“On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests,” a Downing Street spokesperson said yesterday.

Mr Johnson has undergone “routine tests” while in hospital. And the BBC said it was a “precautionary step” taken on his doctor’s advice.

Number 10 said the Prime Minister was still at the helm of the government, including the UK’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the weekend, his pregnant fiancée Carrie Symonds said on Twitter that she had spent a week in bed with the symptoms of Covid-19 but that she was now better.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock also tested positive for the virus more than a week ago and has since recovered and is back at work.

More than 47,000 people in the UK have tested positive for COVID-19 and nearly 5,000 people have died.

In a rare television address to the British people on Sunday, the Queen said “we will succeed” in the fight against coronavirus.

In her rallying speech, she said: “While we have faced challenges before, this one is different.”

“This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed - and that success will belong to every one of us.

“We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
